In the the last episode of the Walking Dead, why did Shane kill Oatis?

What was his reasoning behind that?

Was it really to get the medicine back to Carl or in vain, to save himself?

I'm kind of confused. In the the last episode of the Walking Dead, why did Shane kill Oatis?
Shane shot Otis so the walkers would stop to eat him and give Shane the chance to get away. Since Shane had a sprained ankle he couldn't run very fast he had to sacrifice Otis in order to save Karl.In the the last episode of the Walking Dead, why did Shane kill Oatis?
I think Shane offed Ottis because he felt Ottis was just slowing him down and would proably end up getting the two of them killed Wich is pretty screwed up considering Ottis risked his neck twice for him and saved him when he was about done for.
