It will more than likely never be revealed. We may get some bits and pieces as to why it happened, and why some people survived but, the creator of the series himself never really saw the importance of explaining that, rather just focusing on the aftermath of it and the struggle of people trying to survive in this grim new world.Walking Dead:What made the people turn into walkers?
